Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, Nevada is a railroad museum where you can actually operate either a diesel or a steam locomotive in the yard or 14 miles out in the open for $345/hr and up.

Sumpter Valley Railway in Sumpter, Oregon is a railroad museum where the Railroad's Engineer for a Day program allows you to actually operate one of two historic narrow gauge steam locomotives for a full day pulling a freight train. All day in their Mikado #19 costs $750 for one person and $900 for two persons. All day in their Heisler #3 costs $845 for one person and $995 for two persons.

Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, California is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a diesel locomotive by the hour for $150 for one hour and $275 for two hours.

Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a diesel locomotive by the hour for $190/hr. for a diesel switcher or $285/hr. for a road engine.

New Hope Valley Railway near Bonsal, North Carolina is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a diesel locomotive for $125/hr or a steam locomotive for $250/hr.

Railroad Museum of New England near Waterbury, Connecticut is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a diesel locomotive along the scenic Naugatuck Railroad. The 2008 date schedule hasn't yet been published, but each slot is for one hour which costs $285.

The Valley Railroad Company at Essex, Connecticut is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a steam locomotive. The 2008 is posted on their website. Registrants receive 4 hours of instruction and one hour of operating the steam engine for a cost of $450.

Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society in New Haven, Indiana is another railroad museum where you can actually operate a steam locomotive (Nickel Plate 765). On special occasions, members and visitors can participate in Throttle Time and operate the 765 on our industrial trackage.
